Shou Sugi Ban, a traditional Japanese wood preservation technique, involves carefully charring the surface of wood to enhance its durability and beauty.
This age-old technique not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also ensures that our cutting boards are exceptionally durable, easy to clean, and ideal for the demands of modern kitchens.
Sustainable
Our process begins with plantation-grown hardwood or sourced offcuts, carefully cut into smaller blocks. Through expert craftsmanship, these blocks are transformed into beautiful boards, each piece telling the story of sustainability and an artisans craft.

It is very beautiful but it does show knife marks from cutting.
Thank you for the kind words. Knife marks are part of how these boards age - they blend into the grain over time rather than standing out against it. We look at it as character, and call it patina.

Love these boards! I fell in love with the dark wood burn technique and ordered. They are great cutting boards, water literally beads right off so I’m not nervous about water sitting on the board and ruining the wood or weird bacteria grown. One started to split soon after we received and they quickly replaced and it’s been perfect! Great boards and great customer service! Would love an XL board!

O.K I don't normally leave reviews, but in this case I am going to make an exception. We had a bit of a delay in recieving them (through no fault of ARTSN) but of course the usual thoughts of an online purchase going bad made us initially a bit concerned. But the team at ARTSN were upfront about the delay, provided really great honest communication and were good to their word and we quickly recieved our order. We use them every day and the description matches up to the product. Great quality, easy to clean and they look exquisite. Wish the ARTSN team all the best. My advice....buy some!

After a little bit of a wait due to a backlog .. my board arrived on June 25, 2026. I was so excited. It is lovely and I decided to let it sit and “be admired “ before I officially used it. It has not been used at all (no water, no anything) it arrived unblemished but unfortunately, it now has a big crack and is unusable. After less then a month (22 days to be exact) very disappointed.
Hi Valiada, thanks for your review and totally understand your disappointment here, a crack developing in an unused board is genuinely rare - it points to a stress fracture in the timber that wasn't caught during our quality control inspection. That's on us.
