The Proof
The Water Test
Same water. Same pour. Completely different result.
Regular Wood
Absorbs. Stains. Warps.
Water penetrates the surface, carrying bacteria deep into the grain where cleaning can't reach.
ARTSN — Fire-Treated
Repels. Beads. Protects.
Water can't penetrate the charred carbon surface. It beads into perfect spheres and rolls away. No staining. No bacteria entry.
Our Story
Our limited collection of handcrafted, Japanese-inspired cutting boards have been created in partnership with skilled artisans—real people dedicated to crafting products that bring connection, functionality and beauty to your kitchen.
Shou Sugi Ban
Shou Sugi Ban, a traditional Japanese wood preservation technique, involves carefully charring the surface of wood to enhance its durability and beauty.
This age-old technique not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also ensures that our cutting boards are exceptionally durable, hygienic, and ideal for the demands of modern kitchens.
Sustainable
Our process begins with responsibly sourced timber and reclaimed logs, carefully cut into smaller blocks. Through expert craftsmanship, these blocks are transformed into beautiful boards, each piece telling the story of sustainability and an artisans craft.

I bought a set of boards and whilst the smaller board was fine the bigger board had defects on both sides of the board where it looked like the depressions on the wood has been filled with something else and charred over. This has left uneven surfaces on the board itself and no explanation what this filler product is on their website. It’s been 3 weeks since I emailed them requesting an exchange and there’s been no response.
Was this helpful?AARTSN1 week agoHi Jean - Firstly, I am so so very sorry that your two emails have gone unanswered for multiple weeks.
Secondly, you are 100% correct you should not have been sent this Shoku Pro board. I have immediately issued a replacement.
Unfortunately both of your emails ended up in our junk mail, and I only found them after seeing your review this morning.
To be honest, that looks like this was a test board we were using to develop a repair service for customers. The board likely had a crack or larger diver and was repaired and resealed, but it should never have been packed for shipping.
I’m not sure how our QC missed it. I'm really sorry you ended up with this one. The replacement will go out this today - you can keep the current board, hopefully it may still serve a purpose as a serving board.
I hope once you receive your replacement, we can turn this experience around and you may reconsider this review.

I like the look of the Artsn chopping board,it’s simple, stylish, and very lightweight, which makes it easy to handle and move around the kitchen. The only small issue I noticed is that because it’s so light, it can move slightly when I’m preparing food. Also, when cutting juicy vegetables, the board doesn’t absorb much liquid, so the juices tend to stay on the surface. Overall, it’s a beautiful and practical board, but using it on a damp cloth or non-slip surface might help keep it more stable.
