Product Description

The Kura ("signifying a connection to heritage " in Japanese) board is our longest cutting board, designed specifically for items that don't fit traditional square boards. At 45cm x 25cm long with a distinctive rounded end, this shou sugi ban board excels at handling baguettes, whole fish, asparagus bundles, and other elongated ingredients.

The rounded end isn't just aesthetic, it provides an ergonomic grip point when carrying the board from counter to table, making it perfect for serving as well as prep.

Perfect for:
✓ Artisan bread and baguettes
✓ Whole fish preparation and presentation
✓ Long vegetables (asparagus, leeks, zucchini)
✓ Bread and cheese serving
✓ Carving station (elongated meats)
✓ Small-space solution (narrow footprint)

Why the elongated shape works: The 45cm x 25cm dimensions give you professional-length cutting surface while taking up less counter depth than traditional square boards. Perfect for galley kitchens or narrow counters where width is limited.

Our Story

Our limited collection of handcrafted, Japanese-inspired cutting boards have been created in partnership with skilled artisans—real people dedicated to crafting products that bring connection, functionality and beauty to your kitchen.

Shou Sugi Ban

Shou Sugi Ban, a traditional Japanese wood preservation technique, involves carefully charring the surface of wood to enhance its durability and beauty.

This age-old technique not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also ensures that our cutting boards are exceptionally durable, hygienic, and ideal for the demands of modern kitchens.

Sustainable

Our process begins with responsibly sourced timber and reclaimed logs, carefully cut into smaller blocks. Through expert craftsmanship, these blocks are transformed into beautiful boards, each piece telling the story of sustainability and an artisans craft.

My review of the Shou Sugi Ban cutting board

I have been using a board from this company for a few weeks now and it is a wonderful product.

I cook a lot and have gone through so many boards over the years including the plastic ones.

Usually they end up warping or becoming a hygiene menace but the process that is used to blacken these boards will go a long way to solving these problems.

It does cost more than the supermarket variety, true but what it gives you in return is a quality product that does what it says.

    Highly recommend.

    Best board

Using this board brings an experience beyond the usual. It is so aesthetically pleasing to have in my kitchen and to use. It’s also kind to my knives, satisfying to clean and retains less odor than other boards. It’s a beautiful functional object that I get to enjoy every day.
